Rebuilding a Jamaican Treasure: Support the Montego Bay Yacht Club
Since 1937, the Montego Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) has been a cornerstone of Jamaica’s maritime heritage — home to world-renowned sailing events such as the Pineapple Cup Montego Bay Race and Jamin J/22 Regatta, as well as the Annual Marlin Tournament. Generations of sailors, families, and visitors have gathered here to celebrate sport, friendship, and the sea.
Today, that legacy is at risk. Hurricane Melissa, the most devastating storm in Jamaica’s recorded history, tore through our property. This Category 5 hurricane left in its wake the destruction of our dock and a major section of the clubhouse roof. Only the portions rebuilt after the 2020 storm remain partially viable.
Despite immense damage, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to restore what we can. But the rebuilding costs are significant, and we cannot do it alone.
MBYC is more than a yacht club — it’s a vital hub for the community. The Club supports local livelihoods and environmental stewardship through partners such as the Montego Bay Marine Park Trust, Seascape Caribbean, along with a dozen charter cruise and fishing operators and it remains one of Montego Bay’s most iconic waterfront restaurant locations.
We are appealing to AFJ, Bluefields Foundation and its supporters to help us rebuild this historic landmark. Your generosity will ensure MBYC continues to serve as a beacon of Jamaican resilience, maritime excellence, and community spirit for generations to come.
Together, we can restore this treasured piece of Jamaica’s history — and the heart of Montego Bay.
With gratitude and hope,
The Montego Bay Yacht Club
